Simplyhealth: Costs affecting patients’ attitudes to dental care

11th May 2011

Simplyhealth has published data from a survey which reveals the impact the high cost of dental care is having on patient attitudes.

Research conducted by the insurer reveals that nearly 40 percent of people in the UK may be skipping routine dental checkups due to concerns over paying the bills, while 13 percent have left their practice in the last three years due to high costs.

The number of people expressing concerns over these issues fell in Wales and Scotland, where measures are in place to ensure dental charges are kept lower than in England.

James Glover, a Simplyhealth spokesperson, said this research highlights the importance of patients ensuring they are financially prepared to deal with any necessary dental work, through means such as dental insurance plans.

"With just over 30 percent of people stating they have had to take their children to one or more emergency appointments in the last five years, budgeting for the unexpected visits is essential," he said.

Earlier this year, the company won the best health insurance provider award for 2011 at the Consumer Moneyfacts Awards.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800528280-ADNFCR
