Sirona launches Cerec Connect technology in UK

30th June 2010

Sirona has launched its digital dental impression technology Cerec Connect in the UK as part of a wider international roll-out.

The system allows optical digital impressions of teeth to be taken and translated into digital 3D models, which can then be transmitted instantly to a laboratory for the creation of restorations.

According to Sirona, which has already successfully launched Cerec Connect in Germany and the US, the technology is quicker and more accurate than conventional impressions and casting, as well as providing greater control to dental technicians.

It is also designed to be versatile and can be used in a variety of applications, from single-tooth restorations to small bridges.

Bart Doedens, director of CAD/CAM systems at Sirona, said: “Clinical studies with double-blind tests prove that dentists prefer restorations manufactured with the digital procedure in more than 85 per cent of cases. The advantages for the practice and the dental laboratory are obvious.”

Last month, software solutions provider RSWE released a new application which allows Sirona’s dental imaging application Sidexis XG to function with the Apple iPad, allowing visual data to be communicated to patients more easily.
