Sirona to launch SIROInspect caries detection system
Sirona has announced the May 2012 launch of SIROInspect, a sophisticated technology offering that will aid the detection of dental caries.
The new product is based on fluorescence-aided caries excavation (Face) technology, which takes advantage of the fluorescence characteristics of teeth to light up areas where cavities and decay are developing.
When illuminated with violet light in the spectrum of around 405 nm, healthy dental tissue will light up green while carious areas are visibly red, making it quick and easy to see where caries are concealed when excavating.
Users simply need to switch on the SIROInspect probe and put on the accompanying diagnostic glasses, offering various advantages over traditional diagnostic methods, such as the use of staining agents.
Heike Forell, product manager at Sirona, said: "Face works more reliably than other check-up methods for preventing secondary caries. This is shown by extensive scientific studies and our successful practice tests with experienced users."
This month, the company is also introducing CEREC Guide, a complete new digital solution for integrated implant planning.
