Smith and Nephew agrees distribution deal with Leaf Healthcare

28th February 2017

Smith and Nephew has announced a new strategic investment and distribution agreement with Leaf Healthcare.

The privately owned California-based business is the developer of a unique wireless patient monitoring system for pressure ulcer and injury prevention. The Leaf Patient Monitoring System uses a small, lightweight, wearable sensor to wirelessly track a patient's position and movement.

This data is then used to automate and document the management of prescribed turn protocols for patients at risk for ulcers or injuries. Currently, it is employed by a limited number of hospitals in the US.

With the product having been named as the most innovative pressure ulcer and injury prevention product in North America by Frost and Sullivan last year, Leaf Healthcare is partnering with Smith and Nephew to help this technology to reach a wider customer base.

Glenn Warner, president of Smith and Nephew's US business, said: "The Leaf Patient Monitoring System is designed to help reduce the risk of developing ulcers/injuries as part of a full clinical protocol, making it highly complementary to Smith and Nephew's existing portfolio in this area."
