Smith and Nephew and University of Hull ally on wound care research

10th July 2017

Smith and Nephew has announced a new wound care collaboration with the University of Hull.

A five-year framework has been established, with a co-investment of around three million pounds, to create one of the world's largest wound care research clusters in Hull. It will combine world-leading academia and industry talents to develop new insights and treatments for advanced wound care.

Eight multi-disciplinary PhD studentships have also been created as part of this agreement, with university students to gain access to Smith and Nephew's facilities through dedicated workshops and providing industrial placement supervisors.

Smith and Nephew's new research and development centre in Hull will play a key role in supporting this research, as will the University of Hull's new Health Campus, which is due to open in the summer.

Stewart McKinlay, vice-president of research and innovation at Smith and Nephew, said: "This partnership will combine the brightest minds with the finest research and development facilities available with the aim of better supporting healthcare professionals in the advanced treatment of wounds."
