Smith and Nephew completes acquisition of Rotation Medical
Smith and Nephew has announced the completion of its previously announced takeover of the medical technology firm Rotation Medical.
The deal is worth an initial $125 million (93.37 million pounds) and up to a further $85 million over the next five years, contingent on Rotation Medical's post-merger financial performance.
Rotation Medical is known for developing the Rotator Cuff System, a novel tissue regeneration technology for shoulder rotator cuff repair. It utilises breakthrough technology and techniques to balance biomechanics and biology to enhance natural healing responses.
As such, it is able to help tendons heal by inducing growth of new tendon-like tissue, offering the potential to prevent tear progression and reduce the incidence of re-tears. With rotator cuff procedures becoming more common, it is expected that this product will represent a significant market opportunity for Smith and Nephew.
Olivier Bohuon, Smith and Nephew's chief executive, said: "Rotation Medical furthers our strategy to invest in disruptive technologies that accelerate the transformation of Smith and Nephew to higher growth."
