Smith and Nephew hails positive developments for NPWT offering

15th August 2011

Smith and Nephew has stated its satisfaction with the improving market status of its negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) offerings in Europe.

The manufacturer has confirmed that its Pico NPWT system has been allocated community reimbursement status in the UK and has been listed on the Drug Tariff scheme as of the beginning of the month.

A similar decision is also expected in Germany by 2014, with a national study of the new technology also set to be conducted in the nation from October 2011.

Smith and Nephew states that the Pico product is a lightweight, discrete and comfortable device that allows patients to be treated at home more easily, thus enabling savings for healthcare providers.

Robin Carlstein, senior vice-president of advanced wound devices at Smith and Nephew, said: "Smith and Nephew is proud to supply patients and clinicians with state-of-the-art wound treatment solutions that deliver value and improve patient care."

This comes after the firm noted in its financial report earlier this month that the European debut of its NPWT offerings have helped to drive growth in the second quarter.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800699723-ADNFCR
