Smith and Nephew hosts scientific symposia at WUWHS 2016

29th September 2016

Smith and Nephew has hosted a series of three scientific symposia at the annual meeting of the World Union of Wound Health Societies (WUWHS) in Florence.

Running from September 25th to 29th, the event saw the company holding a number of educational talks to support healthcare professionals by informing them about their latest research in areas of clinical practice that can enable improved outcomes for patients.

The first symposia focused on the firm's unique single-use negative pressure wound therapy system Pico and its role in reducing surgical site complications, with a focus on the range of clinical evidence supporting the product.

In the second symposia, a panel of ten global scientific and clinical experts presented an evolving consensus statement reinforcing the need to better understand the role of biofilms in delayed wound healing, with consideration given to the challenges it presents.

Finally, the third symposia saw leading experts discuss the issues involved in prioritising programmes to significantly reduce hospital-acquired pressure ulcers.

Dr Niz Islam, vice-president for scientific and medical affairs at Smith and Nephew, said: "Through these and other new clinical evidence, we aim to improve outcomes for patients, healthcare professionals and healthcare systems."
