Smith and Nephew names new chief executive officer

4th April 2018

Smith and Nephew has announced the appointment of Namal Nawana as its new chief executive officer (CEO), effective as of May 7th 2018.

Mr Nawana, who will also join the company's board as an executive director, has been named as the successor to Olivier Bohuon, who will offer support in an advisory capacity to help ensure a smooth transition.

The new CEO joins Smith and Nephew having previously enjoyed success as CEO of the medical diagnostics company Alere, where he led a successful turnaround of the brand and oversaw its acquisition by Abbott.

Prior to this, he spent more than 15 years at Johnson and Johnson, eventually becoming worldwide president of the DePuy Synthes spine division, where he oversaw a vital transformation programme and helped to integrate the Synthes brand.

Roberto Quarta, chairman of Smith and Nephew, said: "In Namal, I am delighted that we have secured an exceptional new chief executive with a proven record within the medical device industry."
