Smith and Nephew opens new research centre in Hull
Smith and Nephew has officially opened a new research and development centre at its Hessle Road site in Hull.
The eight million pound centre has been designed to be one of the best-equipped medical technology research centres in Europe, offering world-class facilities for surface analysis and bio-mechanics laboratories specialising in toxicology, chemistry and microbiology.
It will contribute to driving research into pioneering methods of wound healing, helping to better support healthcare professionals in offering measurable improvements to the lives of patients.
The opening of the centre also represents a boon for the local economy, with the Hull site having also recently received investment in capital projects including bespoke manufacturing lines and flood defences.
Stewart McKinley, vice-president of research and innovation at Smith and Nephew, said: "The breadth and scale of scientific specialities that is based in this state-of-the-art research and development centre positions Smith and Nephew as world-class leaders in our industry."
The Hessle Road site manufactures key products such as the Pico single-use negative pressure wound therapy system and the Allevyn Life range of advanced foam dressings.
