Smith and Nephew supports pressure ulcer awareness event
Smith and Nephew has provided support for a US-led initiative intended to raise awareness of the steps needed to help prevent pressure ulcers.
Organised annually by the US National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel, World Wide Pressure Ulcer Prevention Day took place on November 19th to increase awareness and education about the importance of pressure ulcer prevention.
Also commonly referred to as bed sores, pressure ulcers are injuries to the skin and underlying tissue thought to be caused by prolonged pressure, and can be the cause of extreme pain.
The purpose of World Wide Pressure Ulcer Prevention Day is to educate patients, caregivers and healthcare professionals on the preventative measures and effective treatment options that can help address this problem.
Glenn Warner, president for Smith and Nephew's advanced wound management business, said: "At Smith and Nephew, we support healthcare professionals in their daily efforts to improve the lives of their patients, and we are proud to support NPUAP's World Wide Pressure Ulcer Prevention Day."
This comes after the firm recently agreed to purchase Blue Belt Technologies, a deal that will provide it with a foothold in the growing orthopaedic robotics-assisted surgery market.
