The Advanced Wound Management division of Smith & Nephew has won the Manufacturer of the Year 2007 award as well as a host of other gongs at a ceremony held in Coventry last night.

The company, which markets advanced medical devices, also walked away with the award for the World Class Manufacturing, Manufacturing Operations and the Skills and Productivity Award.

Smith & Nephew’s senior vice president Paul Adams stated his delight in taking home so many accolades.

“These awards are testimony to the fact that we have now reached world class benchmark standards in manufacturing,” he stated.

Noel Waters, former operations director for the Hull site, echoed Mr Adams’ satisfaction and stressed that the awards highlighted the fantastic performance of the workforce at its main base in Hull.

Smith & Nephew beat stiff competition from BAE Systems Submarine Solutions, Blackburn MicroTech Solution and KAS Technologies Group to walk away with the clutch of gongs that were presented by Rupert Pennant-Rea, the economist, banker and businessman.

The Advanced Wound Management business develops products to deal with acute wounds such as burns and post operative wounds as well as chronic wounds such as leg ulcers, pressure ulcers and diabetic foot ulcers.
