SonoSite exceeds expectations again in first quarter of 2011

4th May 2011

SonoSite has exceeded internal expectations for the fifth consecutive quarter during the first three months of 2011.

The medical device manufacturer posted a record first-quarter revenue total of $71.1 million (43.01 million pounds), representing a 27 percent increase compared to Q1 2010.

Among the positive trends noted by the firm was the strong performance of its VisualSonics division, acquired in June 2010, as well as sustained growth in the hospital channel.

Kevin Goodwin, SonoSite's president and chief executive officer, stated that this performance has given the company greater confidence in its efforts to further expand its point-of-care visualisation presence over the coming months.

He added: "Our international business also performed well despite facing economic uncertainties and the challenges in Japan."

The last quarter also saw SonoSite's VisualSonics unit introduce the Vevo LAZR Photoacoustics Imaging system, a revolutionary device that combines depth penetration with sensitivity for use in cancer research and analysis.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800518897-ADNFCR
