Sphere Medical names new chief financial officer

Sphere Medical has announced the appointment of Richard Wright, formerly of Alliance Pharma, as its new chief financial officer.

Mr Wright will join the company and the board with effect from August 10th 2015. He is a chartered accountant with more than 20 years of experience in financial roles across a variety of sectors.

From 2007 to 2015, he acted as finance director at Alliance Pharma, while he has also served as a director for companies including Dermapharm, Opus Healthcare and Macuvision Europe.

Dr Wolfgang Rencken, chief executive officer of Sphere, said "His track record of managing Alliance Pharma through a strong commercial growth phase, as well as his extensive experience in negotiating and implementing numerous commercial deals, will strengthen our executive management team."

Since the beginning of the year, the firm has seen strong demand for its Proxima 3 device in the UK, as well as in the German, Dutch and Belgian markets. It has also been able to finalise the development of the successor device, Proxima 4, alongside Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics.
