St Jude Medical gets approval for its Nanostim leadless pacemaker

18th March 2016

St Jude Medical has secured the CE Mark Approval of MRI Compatibility for the Nanostim leadless pacemaker.

Thanks to gaining this approval, all those patients who are fitted with a Nanostim leadless pacemaker throughout Europe can safely undergo full body MRI scans.

Similarly, new patients also be able to undergo these diagnostic scans without incident thanks to the seal of consent.

This builds upon the company's portfolio of MRI compatible products, and furthers patient access to the technological benefits of the Nanostim pacemaker, the first of its kind to be commercially available.

Dr Johannes Sperzel, head of the electrophysiology department at the Kerckhoff Klinik in Bad Nauheim in Germany, said: "Providing my patients access to a highly advanced pacemaker that can undergo an MRI scan is a notable step forward in treatment options."

The Nanostim leadless pacemaker is less than ten percent the size of a standard pacemaker and is designed to be implanted in the heart without requiring a surgical pocket or lead.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801814877-ADNFCR
