St Jude Medical launches Quartet left ventricular leads
St Jude Medical has announced the launch of its new Quartet left ventricular leads in Europe following regulatory approval.
The new CE Mark-accredited leads provide additional electrode spacing options and one new lead shape, allowing clinicians to more effectively target the individual cardiac anatomies of patients who need support from cardiac resynchronisation therapy pacemakers and defibrillators.
A single Quartet lead can be programmed to pace multiple sites on the left side of the heart, giving doctors more choices to improve patient response to therapy, while reducing the likelihood of costly and invasive lead revision through secondary intervention procedures.
The availability of a range of options is beneficial due to the fact that heart and blood vessel anatomy varies from patient to patient.
Philip Adamson, medical director and vice-president of medical affairs at St Jude Medical, said: "These lead choices allow physicians to identify what lead spacing option will work best for each patient so they can individualise care."
The firm received CE Mark approval for MRI compatibility for its Nanostim leadless pacemaker earlier this month.
