St Jude Medical launches USB adaptor for cardiac device

11th May 2010

St Jude Medical has launched a new wireless USB adaptor which is designed to allow patient data to be transmitted to doctors without the need for landlines.

The wireless USB adaptor means patients with a Merlin At Home transmitter can send data to their physicians in a conveniently manner.

It functions by communicating with a patient’s Merlin At Home transmitter wirelessly and can take all the information needed while the patient is asleep.

Data is then sent securely to doctors via an internet-based network and added to a patient’s electronic health record.

It is hoped that this will help to reduce the number of patient-doctor face-to-face meetings and opens up options for patients who travel frequently.

As a new addition to its medical technology portfolio, St Jude Medical said it believes the USB adaptor demonstrates its ability to improve patient care.

The medical device company recently reported an 11 per cent growth in net sales in the first quarter of 2010 compared to the same period in 2009.
