St Jude Medical receives EU approval for vessel reconstruction system
St Jude Medical has been granted European CE Mark approval for a new disease assessment tool designed to aid physicians treating patients with coronary artery disease.
The Ilumien Optis PCI Optimisation System provides 3D vessel reconstruction technology that incorporates intravascular optical coherence tomography and fractional flow reserve capabilities in a single system.
It allows for the creation of a real-time 3D reconstruction of the vessel, offering a 360-degree panoramic view and allowing doctors to make informed decisions on stent placement when carrying out a percutaneous coronary intervention.
Frank Callaghan, president of the St Jude Medical cardiovascular and ablation technologies division, said: "The advancements in the Ilumien Optis system reflect the commitment by St Jude Medical to provide innovative products that reduce healthcare costs and improve outcomes for patients who suffer from coronary artery disease."
Earlier this month, the company's next-generation Ellipse and SJM Assura portfolio of implantable cardioverter defibrillators and cardiac resynchronisation therapy defibrillators were also granted European CE Mark approval.
