St Jude Medical study shows benefits of CardioMEMS HF System
St Jude Medical has announced new clinical trial data demonstrating the positive impact its CardioMEMS HF System can have in the management of heart failure patients.
An analysis of data from the CHAMPION trial has shown that pulmonary artery pressure monitoring with the CardioMEMS HF System can improve medical management and prevent hospitalisations of heart failure patients.
St Jude Medical's device offered advantages compared to weight and blood pressure tracking – the traditional standard of care – and can be used with remote monitoring in the patient's home environment
This study supports the use of pulmonary artery pressure monitoring to help clinicians identify the early onset of worsening heart failure and adjust therapeutic interventions accordingly to avoid unnecessary hospitalisations.
Dr Philip Adamson, medical director and vice-president of medical affairs for St Jude Medical, said: "This latest analysis of the Champion data shows that individualising medication dosing in heart failure patients using information from the CardioMEMS device is more effective in keeping them out of the hospital."
