St Jude Medical’s Optim-insulated leads prove effective in study

14th May 2013

St Jude Medical has highlighted independent study data that supports the strong safety and reliability of its range of Optim-insulated defibrillation leads.

An independent analysis has been carried out by the Population Health Research Institute (PHRI) of data received from ongoing prospective registries monitoring the performance of the Durata and Riata ST Optim implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) leads.

By assessing results from the St Jude Medical-sponsored Optimum, Score and SJ4 Post-Approval registries, it was revealed that the leads offered a 99.9 percent rate of freedom from all-cause insulation abrasion after five years.

Moreover, the leads were also associated with a 99.4 percent rate of freedom from all-cause mechanical failure in the same time frame.

Dr Mark Carlson, chief medical officer and senior vice-president of research and clinical affairs at St Jude Medical's implantable electronic systems division, said: "We are pleased that PHRI's independent analysis of our Optim-insulated lead registries continues to demonstrate the excellent safety and reliability of our Durata ICD leads."

Earlier this month, St Jude Medical has announced that it has been granted European CE Mark approval for its next-generation Ellipse and SJM Assura high-voltage cardiac devices.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801585223-ADNFCR
