Stryker appoints former HealthPartners chief as board member

Stryker has announced the appointment of Mary Brainerd as the newest member of its board of directors.

Ms Brainerd is the former president and chief executive officer of HealthPartners, the largest consumer-governed nonprofit healthcare organisation in the United States. She served in this role for 15 years prior to her retirement on June 1st 2017.

She held various executive roles with HealthPartners since joining the company in 1992, while prior to this, she worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota for spells between 1984 to 1992.

Ms Brainerd previously served on the boards of Possis Medical and SurModics, and is one of the founding chief executives and former chair of the Itasca Project, a group of government, civic and business leaders addressing issues that impact long-term economic growth in the Minneapolis-St Paul region of the US.
