Stryker completes takeover of Mako Surgical

18th December 2013

Stryker has announced the completion of its previously-announced takeover of Mako Surgical Corp in a deal worth $1.65 billion (1.01 billion pounds).

The agreement, which was reached in September 2013, sees Stryker gain control of a pioneering medical technology firm that specialises in the advancement of robotic arm-assisted surgery in orthopaedic applications.

It is thought that this technology platform offers significant long-term potential, offering the ability to transform reconstructive surgery, increase patient satisfaction and enhance the experience for surgeons and hospitals.

Founded in 2004, Mako Surgical's flagship offering is the Makoplasty Partial Knee Resurfacing procedure, which is indicated for the treatment of early to mid-stage osteoarthritis, while its portfolio also includes the Rio Robotic Arm Interactive Orthopaedic System and Restoris family of implants.

Kevin Lobo, president and chief executive officer of Stryker, said: "We're excited to welcome Mako into our organisation and combine their expertise in robotic arm-assisted surgery with Stryker's innovations in joint reconstruction to further advance the growth of this compelling technology."ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801674046-ADNFCR
