Stryker experiences first quarter sales growth

22nd April 2010

Stryker has experienced a 12.4 per cent year-on-year growth in quarterly sales in the first three months of 2010.

The medical device company’s new financial report showed that the performance of both its orthopaedic implants and surgical equipment saw increases in the first quarter, helping to increase its net sales figure to $1.8 billion (1.2 billion pounds).

As a result of this, Stryker has predicted a favourable net sales impact of between 0.5 and 1.5 per cent over the course of the full 2010 fiscal year.

Stephen MacMillan, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Stryker, credited the improvements in performance to investments it has made in its businesses.

He added: “Although we continue to navigate through a challenging macro environment, it’s clear that our diverse product offering and global presence afford considerable competitive advantages.”

This follows on from Mr MacMillan’s prediction in Stryker’s 2009 financial report that the company would experience a “modest recovery” in 2010 following the difficult economic conditions faced last year.
