Syner-Med launches new iron preparation

23rd May 2008

Syner-Med Pharmaceutical Products has launched an intravenous iron preparation said to be “next-generation”.

Ferric Carboxymaltose has been licensed to treat confirmed iron deficiency in those who cannot otherwise take the supplement orally.

The company unveiled Ferric Carboxymaltose this week and said it enables high doses of iron to be administered “in minutes”.

This is in contrast to the multiple outpatient visits and many hours some people need to obtain adequate iron administration, Syner-Med suggested.

In addition to saving time for patients, Ferric Carboxymaltose could potentially reduce waiting times within the NHS chronic disease management system as it allows those who need it to be treated nearer to their homes and possibly in a Primary Care environment.

“Any IV trained nurse will be able to deliver patient treatment; this should be convenient for both patients and providers,” Syner-Med added.

Syner-Med focuses on the clinical management of infection prevention, central venous access catheter management and iron deficiency anaemia.
