Takeda and Cognition Kit to assess wearable software for people with depression

24th February 2017

Takeda has announced a new partnership with Cognition Kit to assess the benefits of a new wearable software application for patients with major depressive disorder.

The company's US subsidiary Takeda Pharmaceuticals USA is working with Cognition Kit to pilot the use of a specially designed Apple Watch app to aid the monitoring and assessment of cognitive function in patients with depression.

A total of 30 participants aged 18 to 65 being treated with antidepressants for mild to moderate depression will be enrolled for the study, which aims to evaluate feasibility and compliance rates, as well as how measures of mood and cognition on wearable technology compare to more traditional neuropsychological testing and patient-reported assessments.

Results from this study are expected in the first half of 2017, and the partners hope they will show that the app can be effective in maximising patient engagement and the effectiveness of treatment.

Nicole Mowad-Nassar, vice-president of external partnerships at Takeda Pharmaceuticals USA, said: "This collaboration is part of our strategy to embrace new technology to better understand the patient experience and assist healthcare professionals in creating improved patient care pathways."
