Takeda and Stanford University announce drug discovery collaboration

Takeda has announced a new drug research collaboration with Stanford University in the US.

The organisations will come together to form the Stanford Alliance for Innovative Medicines, an initiative aimed at transforming novel research from the university into next-generation treatments for diseases.

Collaboratively, Takeda and Stanford will identify promising projects and accelerate the process of bringing these drugs to market to serve patients with unmet needs, an effort that will leverage the expertise of scientists from both organisations.

Proposals from Stanford lab teams will be accepted from October, including objectives against which to measure progress and success during key phases of research. Once the projects have been selected, Takeda will apply its capabilities to develop the pathway or platform technology.

The collaboration will run for three years and is designed to support four to eight projects running concurrently at any given time.

Juan Harrison, vice-president and head of strategic academic alliances at Takeda's centre for external innovation, said: "We look forward to combining the intellectual capital of Takeda and Stanford scientists, motivating both to come together as peers, in order to deliver medicines that represent real and meaningful benefits for patients."
