Takeda names new head of Europe and Canada

Takeda has announced the appointment of Giles Platford as president of its Europe and Canada (EUCAN) business unit, a role he will assume on April 1st.

Mr Platford, who has been with the company since 2009, is also a corporate officer and member of the Takeda executive team. He was previously the president of emerging markets, including Russia-CIS, Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, China and Asia Pacific.

In this role, he oversaw the launch of Takeda's innovative pipeline across the region, and led the successful design and rollout of the company's Global Access to Medicines Programme.

Overall, Mr Platford can boast more than 15 years of pharmaceutical experience, having previously served as its head in the Middle East, Turkey and Africa region and general manager of the Brazilian business.

Christophe Weber, president and chief executive officer of Takeda, said: "EUCAN has been a high-performing region in the last few years, and I am fully confident that Giles, with his solid business ability and understanding of Takeda values, is the ideal choice to lead this business unit."
