Takeda provides grant to Koch Institute to support cancer research
Takeda is providing a gift of $1 million (799,900 pounds) to support the work of the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research.
The company will provide the institute – part of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology – with funds over the next two years to help its research into the role of the immune system in combating cancer, with the aim of developing potential novel treatments.
Immuno-oncology is an increasingly important field of cancer research, with Koch Institute scientists presently examining animal models and human patients to improve immune responses to cancer.
Its work involves the development of drug delivery tools, new methods for analysing cellular immune responses, and therapies based on engaging both the innate and the adaptive immune response of the body.
Dr Christopher Arendt, immunology discovery lead at Takeda, said: "Takeda embraces innovative science both inside and outside of our organisation, and as part of our commitment to patients with cancer, we look to support academic institutions that are leading research in immuno-oncology."
