Tecan purchases laboratory automation solutions provider Sias

Tecan has announced the acquisition of Sias, a leading OEM supplier of laboratory automation solutions, as it seeks to expand its partnering business.

Offering a wide range of modular and complete laboratory automation solutions, Sias will become a part of the Tecan partnering business, allowing it to leverage its new parent company's global sales infrastructure and after-sales support capabilities.

The acquisition also adds further scale to Tecan's leading OEM business, allowing it to attract new corporate customers in the in vitro diagnostics segment, as well as expanding its pipeline of development projects.

Sias' modular platforms and robotic components are designed for low to medium-throughput applications, thus expanding the scope of Tecan's automation solutions and components offering.

Dr Achim von Leoprechting, head of Tecan's partnering business, said: "Sias' core expertise in automating immunoassays and molecular diagnostics workflows, as well as their strong client base in China, perfectly match with our corporate strategy."

The firm achieved double-digit sales growth and a record net profit figure in the first half of 2015.
