7th August 2023

The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and the Department for Environment (Defra) are providing finance for the second stage of their revolutionary animals illness program.

The campaign, which began in 2021, aims to improve the UK livestock business by lowering the impact of endemic illnesses on livestock health, well-being, and efficiency.

The objective is to offer treatment options that can administered from the farm that reduce the adverse effects of endemic illnesses on the UK farm animal populations

“Endemic diseases in the UK livestock sector pose significant challenges to animal welfare, productivity, and sustainable farming practices,” commented Professor Guy Poppy, chairman of the BBSRC.

Christine Middlemiss, UK Head Veterinarian Officer, concluded, “The UK remains committed to working collaboratively with farmers to overcome infectious animal disease. I am excited about the second step of this intriguing study project.”
