Thermo Fisher Scientific acquires NanoDrop Technologies

11th October 2007

Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced the acquisition of micro-volume ultraviolet-visible instrumentation manufacturer NanoDrop Technologies.

President and chief executive of Thermo Fisher Scientific Marijn E Dekkers stated that increasing demand for accelerated sample preparation time is now combined with the need to work with smaller sample sizes.

"NanoDrop’s patented technologies uniquely allow customers to quickly and easily analyse difficult micro-volume samples without the need for dilution. This preserves precious samples to greatly increase laboratory productivity," he added.

According to Thermo Fisher Scientific, NanoDrop – which produces a range of spectrophotometers that are used in industrial applications, life sciences research and laboratory situations – has annual revenues of around $35 million (17 million pounds).

NanoDrop’s product line will be incorporated into the analytical technologies segment of Thermo Fisher Scientific, the company has asserted.

Earlier this month, the firm announced that it has acquired third-party logistics provider to the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries Priority Solutions International.
