Thermo Fisher Scientific acquires proteomics analysis specialist

16th April 2010

Thermo Fisher Scientific has agreed to purchase the proteomics analysis specialist Proxeon in a deal which allows it to expand its analytical technology offering.

The newly acquired firm provides proteomics workflow solutions with applications in fields such as liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry (LC/MS), offering technology such as columns, ion sources and bioinformatics software.

Among its range is the EASY-nLC nanoflow liquid chromatography system, which is used by a number of leading proteomic centres due to its intuitive interface and versatile range of applications.

Marc Casper, president and chief executive officer of Thermo Fisher Scientific, said Proxeon’s product range tallies with its own strategies for the LC/MS sector and will be integrated into its own systems.

He added: “By offering a high-performance solution that addresses the need for simplified operation, we can meet the increasing demand for LC/MS in proteomics applications.”

Last week, science firm Symyx revealed that laboratory information technology from Thermo Fisher Scientific is to be incorporated into its Notebook system for monitoring gas chromatography experiments.
