Thermo Fisher Scientific adds new Orbitrap GC-MS system enhancements

25th October 2017

Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced the addition of a number of new features for its Orbitrap gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) systems.

Following on from the prior launches of the Q Exactive GC Orbitrap and the Exactive GC Orbitrap systems, the new update adds enhancements such as the addition of variable electron voltage (VeV) technology, as well as compatibility with the Orbitrap GC-MS HRAM Metabolomics Library and the TraceFinder Automated Compound Identification.

These new capabilities will help to provide highly sensitive, selective and accurate compound identification of complex samples for laboratories performing GC-MS analysis, in addition to their existing excellent resolving power, mass accuracy, linear dynamic range and sensitivity.

Orbitrap systems are utilised by laboratories in a range of metabolomics, food safety, environmental, pharma and toxicology applications, all of which will benefit from the addition of the new options.

Fausto Pigozzo, director of marketing for GC GC-MS products at Thermo Fisher Scientific, said: "Our research and development teams are dedicated to advancing this technology and with these newest capabilities offer systems that continue to provide customers with information rich analysis."
