Thermo Fisher Scientific agrees deal for Trek Diagnostic Systems

19th July 2011

Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced that it will be acquiring microbiology solutions provider Trek Diagnostic Systems.

The company has agreed a deal with Trek's current owner Magellan Biosciences to take control of the business, which is responsible for creating blood culture, microorganism identification and antibiotic susceptibility testing products.

Based in Ohio, Trek generated $34 million (21.1 million pounds) in full-year revenue during 2010 and will become part of Thermo Fisher Scientific's analytical technologies segment.

Marc Casper, president and chief executive officer of Thermo Fisher Scientific, stated that its new subsidiary's range of products is complementary to its existing microbiological testing portfolio.

"Advances in automation and the development of more rapid and reliable tests enable us to provide our customers with improvements in productivity and efficiency," he added.

Earlier this month, the company announced the appointment of Novo Nordisk's chief executive officer Lars Rebien Sorensen as the newest member of its board of directors.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800626258-ADNFCR
