Thermo Fisher Scientific and Biocrates launch metabolome analysis kit

14th June 2017

Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced the launch of a new kit for metabolic phenotyping on high-resolution mass spectrometry instruments.

Developed in partnership with Biocrates Life Sciences, the Biocrates AbsoluteIDQ p400 HR kit is the industry's first comprehensive kit for targeted metabolomics analysis, and is a ready-to-use tool for accurate phenotyping.

The kit has been developed as part of a co-marketing agreement between the two companies, combining the benefits of the high-resolution, accurate-mass Thermo Scientific Orbitrap mass spectrometry systems and Biocrates' metabolic phenotyping technologies.

Multiplexed, quantitative and standardised metabolome analysis can all be performed at a substantial level of depth, as the kit can analyse up to 408 key metabolites – covering 11 central metabolite classes – using just 10 microlitres of biofluidic sample volume.

Andreas Huhmer, director of proteomics and metabolomics marketing, chromatography and mass spectrometry at Thermo Fisher, said: "Customers now have a standardised approach to quantitative and reproducible sample analysis to help them gain a deeper understanding of the metabolome."
