Thermo Fisher Scientific and Illumina ally on Ion AmpliSeq distribution deal

11th January 2018

Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced a new partnership with Illumina designed to expand availability of its Ion AmpliSeq sequencing technology.

The commercial agreement enables Illumina to sell Ion AmpliSeq technology to researchers who conduct scientific studies on its next-generation sequencing platforms. Illumina will sell the product directly to its customers under the name AmpliSeq for Illumina.

Ion AmpliSeq is a cutting-edge amplicon platform that has been shown to be highly effective in capturing DNA and RNA from very small amounts of samples, for application in multiple areas of research.

Following the agreement, Thermo Fisher will continue to sell Ion AmpliSeq chemistry for both IVD and RUO applications to Ion Torrent sequencing customers, and retains the right to make the technology available on other next-generation sequencing platforms.

Joydeep Goswami, president of clinical next-generation sequencing and oncology for Thermo Fisher Scientific, said: "Thermo Fisher expects standardisation of the AmpliSeq technology will have a profound impact on disease research and encourage greater collaboration among the next-generation sequencing community."
