Thermo Fisher Scientific completes Alfa Aesar acquisition
Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced the completion of its acquisition of the chemicals company Alfa Aesar from Johnson Matthey.
Alfa Aesar, a leading global manufacturer of research chemicals, has been purchased for 256 million pounds and employs around 480 people at locations in the UK, US, Germany, China, South Korea and India.
The business generated sales of approximately 78 million pounds in 2014 and will be integrated into Thermo Fisher's laboratory products and services segment following the completion of the deal.
Thermo Fisher believes the takeover gives them the opportunity to fully leverage the combined capabilities of both organisations in laboratory chemicals to drive growth.
Marc Casper, president and chief executive officer of Thermo Fisher Scientific, said: "The addition of Alfa Aesar products to our existing chemicals portfolio offers customers greater access to a broad offering that serves virtually every laboratory application – from research to production."
Alfa Aesar has been in business for more than 50 years and offers more than 45,000 products.
