Thermo Fisher Scientific completes Fermentas takeover
Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced the completion of its deal to acquire molecular and cellular biology research specialist Fermentas International.
The firm, which employs around 500 members of staff throughout its international operations, has been integrated as part of Thermo Fisher Scientific’s analytical technologies division following the closing of the deal.
Marc Casper, president and chief executive officer of Thermo Fisher Scientific, first announced the takeover last month, with the transaction being valued at $260 million (170.5 million pounds).
A range of reagents, enzymes and kits will be added to Thermo Fisher Scientific’s portfolio as a result of the closure of the acquisition, allowing the firm to offer a complete workflow for genomics research.
It is estimated that Fermentas revenues from product sales for the 2009 full-year period came to approximately $55 million.
Explaining the move, Mr Casper said: “With Fermentas, we are better positioned to meet the demands of molecular and cell biologists for complete workflows that can accelerate their research and improve results.”
