Thermo Fisher Scientific launches CW3 Cell Washer

4th May 2017

Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced the launch of a new high-performance cell washer that can carry out blood cell washing of up to 24 tubes in a three-minute run.

The fully automated CW3 Cell Washer has been specifically designed to deliver a precise, thorough, reproducible and rapid performance, combined with a user-friendly design and safe operation.

It is able to achieve optimal corpuscle dryness by allowing users to preset the desired decanting speed, angling tubes positively to sediment cells rapidly at the bottom of the tube during the wash before switching to a negative angle to decant the saline centrifugally.

The device also allows users to choose between 12 or 24-place rotors and standardised, repeatable procedures to help the instrument adapt to the processes and protocols already in place within the lab.

Thermo Fisher Scientific has designed the CW3 Cell Washer to accommodate the needs of clinical, hospital and serological laboratories, as well as blood bank and transfusion centres.

Hugh Tansey, global product director for centrifugation at Thermo Fisher Scientific, said: "Effective blood cell washing is extremely important in the removal of plasma and unwanted antibodies to ensure that patients will not be affected by adverse health effects and that blood-transfused products will retain all of their beneficial attributes."
