Thermo Fisher Scientific launches new cryo-electron microscopy solutions

9th August 2017

Thermo Fisher Scientific has launched a pair of new solutions for cryo-electron microscopy to help drive structural biology discoveries.

The Thermo Scientific Krios G3i and Thermo Scientific Glacios cryo-transmission electron microscopes can be used independently or together in a single-particle analysis workflow for structural analysis of proteins, protein complexes and other biomolecular structures.

Krios G3i features enhancements including auto-alignment, a simplified user interface and an extended sample lifetime, which make the system easier to use, improve repeatability and reproducibility, and reduce time-to-results relative to previous generations.

Meanwhile, the Glacios delivers a high-performance solution for a broad range of scientists, extending the accessibility of cryo-electron microscopy with an industry-leading price performance, new automation features and a small footprint to simplify installation.

Peter Fruhstorfer, vice-president and general manager for life sciences at Thermo Fisher Scientific, said: "Our Krios G3i establishes new benchmarks for performance and productivity in cutting-edge structural biology research, while the revolutionary Glacios provides an entry path that opens up cryo-EM to a wider range of laboratories."
