Thermo Fisher Scientific launches new SeqStudio Genetic Analyzer

24th May 2017

Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced the launch of its Applied Biosystems SeqStudio Genetic Analyzer, a new capillary electrophoresis system.

Designed to offer a low-throughput, cartridge-based system for Sanger sequencing and fragment analysis, the device has applications in oncology research, genome editing, species identification and human cell line authentication.

It utilises a unique all-in-one cartridge that combines the capillary array, polymer reservoir and anode buffer to simplify preparation and hands-on processing time, while the system also allows users to access individualised protocols, an intuitive touchscreen and connectivity to the Thermo Fisher Cloud for remote setup, monitoring and analysis.

Other key advantages include its small footprint, onboard computer and allowance for sequencing and fragment analysis to run on the same plate without the need to change any consumables.

Kim Kelderman, vice-president and general manager of genetic analysis at Thermo Fisher Scientific, said: "The SeqStudio Genetic Analyzer is a smart and state-of-the-art system that provides researchers with a truly plug-and-play system."

The system will be available to all global markets in the second half of 2017 and is already in use among select early-access customers.
