Thermo Fisher Scientific launches NXType Kit for next-generation sequencing

2nd December 2014

Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced the launch of the new NXType Kit, a research use-only solution for human leukocyte antigen (HLA) typing by next-generation sequencing.

Introduced via the company's One Lambda division, the NXType sequencing kits feature long-range primers and an improved chemistry on the Ion Torrent Personal Genome Machine system, enabling full-range sequencing of class I and II HLA genes in three days.

It is suitable for many laboratory applications and can be customised to handle a range of sample sizes. The NXType workflow uses a five-step process that allows the user to take a methodical, time-saving approach to high-resolution HLA typing.

Currently, the kit is only available for research use, but the company is also seeking wider CE Mark approval for the product.

Dr Susan Hsu, of the American Red Cross in Philadelphia, said: "One Lambda has successfully streamlined our next-generation sequencing workflow with their new NXType Kit by greatly improving the efficiency on the PGM platform."

Last week, Thermo Fisher Scientific announced a new collaboration with Samsung Electronics on the development of new point-of-care diagnostic solutions, taking advantage of the unique capabilities of both organisations.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801763847-ADNFCR
