Thermo Fisher Scientific partners with Institute of Pathology Heidelberg

8th September 2017

Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced a new partnership with the Institute of Pathology Heidelberg (IPH) to drive oncology companion diagnostic development in Europe.

The IPH has agreed to establish its Center of Molecular Pathology at Heidelberg University Hospital as the newest member of Thermo Fisher Scientific's Next Generation Sequencing Companion Dx Center of Excellence programme.

Focused on forging strategic collaborations with leading European-based organisations, the programme aims to encourage researchers to lead studies using Thermo Fisher's Oncomine research panels to create new precision oncology companion diagnostics.

Working in collaboration with pharmaceutical partners and Thermo Fisher Scientific, the IPH Center of Molecular Pathology will conduct studies and clinical trials examining a range of cancer types.

The institute is also the site of the largest tissue biobank in Germany, which utilises a laboratory information management system that incorporates Thermo Fisher's Ion Torrent bioinformatics software.

Joydeep Goswami, president of clinical next-generation sequencing and oncology for Thermo Fisher Scientific, said: "We are committed to companion diagnostic development and will continue on this path with leading global organisations that share our vision of a healthier world."
