Thermo Fisher Scientific pledges adherence to antibody validation recommendations

6th September 2016

Thermo Fisher Scientific has confirmed that it will be adhering to new conceptual pillars for antibody validation published in the journal Nature Methods.

Developed by the International Working Group on Antibody Validation (IWGAV), the proposals address antibody specificity, functionality and reproducibility, and will help to ensure the future validity and availability of all antibodies.

Thermo Fisher Scientific has pledged to testing the specificity of antibodies in its portfolio in accordance with these new standards, leveraging its leading mass spectrometry, CRISPR and siRNA platforms.

Additionally, the company will work to identify antibodies that pass the new standards with an icon or badge on its website, to indicate that it has passed specificity testing.

Peter Silvester, president for biosciences at Thermo Fisher Scientific, said: "Our pledge to test our antibodies to the IWGAV standards demonstrates our commitment to science and our mission to provide antibodies that function with absolute specificity."

The IWGAV project represents the first initiative of this size and scope specifically designed to establish standards for antibody validation for both producers and users.
