Thermo Fisher Scientific supplies GC-MS system to University of Muenster

20th October 2015

Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced the first installation of one of its Orbitrap-based gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) instruments at the University of Muenster.

Dr Sascha Nowak, head of division for analytics and environmental aspects at the Muenster Electrochemical Energy Technology (MEET) Battery Research Center, will be the first to use the new Thermo Scientific Q Exactive GC hybrid quadrupole-Orbitrap GC-MS/MS instrument for his lab.

The MEET focuses on the research and development of innovative electrochemical energy storage devices with a high energy density, longer durability and maximum safety.

Key aspects of the Q Exactive GC system include its high resolving power and mass accuracy, with its better limits of detection providing an accurate quantitative measure of toxicity.

Morten Bern, senior director and general manager for gas chromatography mass spectrometry at Thermo Fisher, said: "The important research being conducted by MEET is a perfect application for our inaugural installation of the new Q Exactive GC instrument. Using HRAM will enable Dr Nowak's lab to gain an even deeper understanding of their samples."

Earlier this month, the company completed its acquisition of Alfa Aesar, a leading global manufacturer of research chemicals, to further expand the capabilities of its business.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801803616-ADNFCR
