Thermo Fisher Scientific upgrades Q Exactive mass spectrometer

11th September 2012

Thermo Fisher Scientific has released new instrument control software for its Thermo Scientific Q Exactive hybrid mass spectrometer.

The upgraded software adds data-independent acquisition (DIA) proteomics capabilities to the device, allowing the Q Exactive to collect spectra on virtually all ions in a sample by selecting broad m/z windows and fragmenting all precursors.

Not only does this mean that nearly all peptides in the sample can be detected in a single run, but it also allows both DIA and targeted quantification experiments to be performed on the same instrument.

This new instrument control software is now available as a developer's kit for any Q Exactive LC/MS customers who wish to acquire DIA capability.

Andreas Huhmer, marketing director at Thermo Fisher, said: "Multiplexing strategies … will play an important role in elevating quantitative proteomics to this new level and the unique architecture of hybrid Orbitrap instruments will play an important role in advancing the technique."

This comes in the same week that the firm introduced version 2.0 of its Thermo Scientific Proteome Discoverer software.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801447133-ADNFCR
