UCB and Plasticell to collaborate on stem cell research

10th November 2010

UCB is to ally with biotechnology company Plasticell in a new partnership designed to advance stem cell biology research.

The agreement will see UCB provide Plasticell with drug compound libraries with known biological targets, which will then be screened using CombiCult technology in order to find new cell signalling pathways.

It will allow hundreds of compounds to be screened simultaneously for cells with potential applications in tissue regeneration and other areas of medicine.

UCB expressed confidence that this partnership will lead to further understanding of compounds with a number of versatile uses, while acknowledging Plasticell for its "cutting-edge" expertise.

Dr Matthew Hickling, senior medical advisor at UCB, said: "We think this approach will prove to be a highly successful technique for applying well-characterised compounds in discovery research and potentially in future cell therapies."

Last month, UCB published its financial results for the first nine months of 2010, reporting a nine percent year-on-year increase in revenue.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800227194-ADNFCR
