UCB presents Alzheimer’s expert with research award

21st June 2011

UCB has presented a leading expert in the field of Alzheimer's disease research with an award of funding.

Professor Bart De Strooper has been selected as the recipient of the 2011 UCB Award for Neuroscientific Research, which is presented every three years in association with the Queen Elizabeth Medical Foundation.

The professor's work focuses on the potential role of deregulating the microRNA network of the disease in order to gain further understanding of its causes and potential treatment options.

UCB will provide him with 100,000 euros (88,500 pounds) to continue with this pioneering research, which could lead to the development of new therapies in future.

Roch Doliveux, chief executive officer of the firm, said: "UCB, leader in the field of epilepsy, supports and promotes innovative and original research work concerning the central nervous system."

Earlier this year, the company announced a new alliance with Harvard University that will see it provide funding for new studies into central nervous system conditions and immunology.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800585841-ADNFCR
