UCB to sponsor upcoming two-city epilepsy hackathon

18th February 2015

UCB has announced that it will be sponsoring Hack Epilepsy, a forthcoming hackathon that will help to create digital tools and services to support patients with epilepsy.

To be held simultaneously in Brussels and Atlanta from April 24th to 26th this year, the hackathon will see developers, designers and digital experts joining forces with epilepsy specialists and patients to build prototype digital products.

These tools will aim to help patients access effective support and reliable information, while empowering people to talk about their epilepsy and understand what questions to ask following diagnosis.

Participating teams will also have a chance to compete for prize money for the most innovative prototype, with each entry judged on its tangible benefits, innovation, feasibility and quality of presentation.

Erik Janssen, vice-president of global patient solutions for epilepsy at UCB, said: "Creative, highly-skilled online developers and designers relish the challenge of coming up with practical, workable prototypes that can be of real value to people with a severe disease such as epilepsy."

Epilepsy is a key focus area for UCB. Last month, it filed for European and US regulatory approval of its latest investigational antiepileptic drug, brivaracetam.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801775901-ADNFCR
