Unilever named as industry leader in new sustainability ranking

13th September 2016

Unilever has been named as an industry leader in the new Dow Jones Sustainability Index for 2016 after achieving an overall score of 92 out of a possible 100.

The company was named as the top-performing company in the household and personal products industry group in the new report, making it one of only 24 companies to achieve industry leader status.

It was the top performer in its sector on 14 out of 22 criteria, including corporate governance, brand management, materiality, supply chain management, packaging, labour practice indicators and human rights, and corporate citizenship and philanthropy.

This is the first year Unilever has been included in this category. Previously, it was classed as part of the food products sector within the food, beverage and tobacco industry group, which it led for 15 years.

Jeff Seabright, chief sustainability officer of Unilever, said: "The results reflect the continued progress we are making in delivering the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan, driving long-term sustainable business growth and achieving our vision of making sustainable living commonplace."
